Energy Management Experts
VANCOUVER, BC — October 24, 2025
Exactly one year after receiving funding from British Columbia's 2024 Innovative Clean Energy (ICE) Fund, Sisa Energy has successfully validated and commercialized its Virtual Submeter (VSM) technology—software that delivers granular, hourly energy insights without installing physical submeters.
Validated in collaboration with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), the project demonstrated high accuracy, repeatability, and seamless integration with engineering workflows across diverse building environments. Today, Sisa Energy's Virtual Submeter is actively deployed in university campuses, school districts, and healthcare facilities, providing verified, low-cost precision insights that accelerate decarbonization and retrofit planning.
From Innovation to Impact
Backed by the Province of British Columbia, the ICE Fund investment accelerated Sisa Energy's AI-powered energy consultant copilot, which streamlines data gathering, modelling, and retrofit planning—helping owners and auditors move from assessment to action faster and at lower cost.
- •Hardware-free precision: Converts existing utility, controls, and building data into a network of "virtual" submeters for hourly, end-use-level insight—no new meters required.
- •Portfolio-scale intelligence: Built on a platform spanning 20,000+ buildings, enabling rapid benchmarking and analysis across portfolios.
- •Accelerated studies, credible baselines: Cuts study time dramatically while enhancing accuracy for audits, opportunity identification, and measurement and verification.
- •Electrification-ready: Includes optimization modules for electrification capacity and decarbonization planning to support heat pump and low-carbon upgrades.
Proven in Real Buildings
""Our validation phase with BCIT proved that Virtual Submetering can deliver hardware-free accuracy at scale," said Sina Salari, CEO, Sisa Energy. "One year later, we're proud to see it driving real outcomes—supporting universities, schools, and healthcare sites as they plan electrification and achieve measurable savings.""
The Virtual Submeter models end-use consumption by fusing utility interval data, building automation system signals, and contextual metadata. The result: enterprise-grade energy intelligence that scales from equipment-level insights to multi-building portfolios—all delivered through an AI copilot built for consultants and facility teams.
Looking Ahead
With the ICE Fund project now validated, Sisa Energy is expanding service delivery and partnerships to accelerate deep retrofit planning, carbon reporting, and electrification readiness across Canada.
